A quick recap of the CMJ Takeover last night, featuring Jay Electronica, Donmonique, Jay IDK and more.

Last night, the HNHH-sponsored CMJ Takeover went down at Santos House Party in NYC. Although we only really announced the event a day prior, fans came out in hoards, likely for the headliner, Jay Electronica. The reclusive rapper killed his set, but not before proclaiming, "My name is Jay Electronica. I'm from New Orleans, Louisana. The state of hip-hop is fucked up." What do you think of his claim?

In addition to Jay Elect running through cuts like "Exhibit A," "Shiny Suit Theory" and more fan-favorites, NYC's own Donmonique also graced the stage, as well as Jay IDK (currently buzzing off SubTrap), and Jet Life staple Young Roddy.

Meek Mill vs. Drake, The Battle Continues (Word On The Street)

It's been a big week for rap beef, but no beef has been louder than Drake and Meek Mill's. After staying silent for a few days, Meek Mill allowed Drake to put out two strong diss records before he got out his first, and according to New York, it may have cost him the battle.

Speaking with some NY rap heads, there was definitely some support for Meek, but for the most part, Drizzy was deemed victor. Then again, this war may not be over just yet, so stay tuned for further updates. For now, let us know whose side you've got in the beef in the comments below.

Bun B's latest endeavor is one that's pretty unprecedented in the rap game. This Spring, he'll be co-teaching an online course called "Hip Hop & Religion" with Rice University professor Dr. Anthony Pinn, and we met up with him to get the scoop on this free course.
Pinn has been teaching a similar course at Rice for about 20 years, but because the class was capped at 200 students and he witnessed overwhelming demand, he decided to take it online this time around. Bun began as a guest lecturer, but thanks to a strong connection between him and Pinn, became a regular fixture in the classroom. According to them, this is the "only course that involves an artists and an academic in conversation in an ongoing way."

T-Pain is preparing for a new studio album, and after giving us a little appetizer with his Gangsta Grillz mixtape The Iron Way, he's ready to start really promoting the fifth album. He dropped off his first single, featuring Juicy J, a few weeks back and it's an appropriate twerking/strip club anthem called "Make That Shit Work." T-Pain has a penchant for creating strip club soundtrack music, and with that in mind, when he visited our office the other week we had him do his top 5 records to "make that shit work."

Kicking off the list, T-Pain names Cee-Lo's "Closest Freak" as #5. For slot #4 he lists Juvenile's "Back That Ass Up," and then he gives himself a shout out at #3 with "Up Down." Michael Jackson's "Off The Wall" slides in at #2 and, unsurprisingly, the auto-tuned singer rounds out the list with his own single "Make That Shit Work." Fair enough?

For many, the best part of Meek Mill's 4/4 Part 2 was Tdot Illdude's introductory hook. Tdot gained a lot of curious listeners that day -- nascent fans, impressed but unfamiliar, who would tune into Tdot's The Vibe is Heavy EP to see if that hook was a fluke... it was not.

Today, Tdot releases the video for Cardiak-produced "Sometimes," which has been a fan favorite from the EP. The Jersey native heads to sunny Los Angeles, where he bikes below the palm trees before cuddling up with his purple-haired lady, a pair of champagne flutes, and a bag of California kush.

Today we dropped our Word On The Street episode, centered around Jay Z's new streaming service Tidal and how people are reacting to it (watch that full episode here: http://hnhh.co/vbxtv). It's New York, so we obviously come across a few colorful characters from time to time, and this lady was definitely one of them. She went off, ranting about ISIS, Tidal, Biggie, Brooklyn, Nicki Minaj and...well, were not too sure what else she was on about. She's not a fan of Nicki, by the way. She even brought out her portable speaker and began rapping for us ("let me show you how Brooklyn I am").
